I noticed that the whidbey install also installed SS 2004 edition. However, I don't see any options within my web application in whidbey for SS control. I have found the SS options under Tool -> Options and I have found the Pending Checkin window, etc. but there are no options to put the project in source control or create a project from source control, etc.
Is the integration between SS 2004 & Whidbey available in the technical preview or is this something that will be added to the beta?
Thanks,
Scott Lee
slee@dotnet.itags.org.questis.comI have options for adding and getting a project from source control in my installation of Whidbey (please check if you can find the options you are looking for under the File/Source Control menu), and everything works fine for me. But I have to install VSS 6.xx first before getting it to work. The VVS 2004 version doesn't create a default database of some reason.
It is indeed available, though just a little hidden :). If you are running under the Web profile, the file menu lacks the source control menu items (this is a known bug that has been fixed for the beta). However, the commands are still very usable. If you customize the look of your IDE, the "add selected projects to source control" will work for your web sites, so if you want to drag any of those commands into your file menu, that will work. Also, notice on add/open web site there is a SourceSafe tab that you can use to retrieve projects from source control.
Let me know if you have any issues or if I misunderstood your problem.
Hope this helps,
John
John - is there any new features or improvements in the 2004 version if SS it looks very much the same as the old version. Just wondering if there is any plan to dramaticlly improve any of the SS shortcomings.
Gotcha, thanks!
My problem was that I had installed Whidbey using the "Web Developer" option. I have since changed it to VB Programmer by using the Import/Export Settings option.
Thanks for the quick response!

There are minor updates and more features coming for web projects. Do you have any particular shortcomings in mind you would have liked to see addressed?
scdlee_quest: yes, that equivalently does what I mentioned in terms of getting the source control menu item, but a warning in advance is that the VB IDE settings were probably not tested much with web projects for the alpha, so you might see some funky menus and tool windows :). If you prefer to keep the web profile, you can do so using the method I outlined above of dragging the commands you're interested in onto the desired places on the command/menu bar.
John
