Probably on 20028, but we won't be around to see it.

:-)

For vs 2008, see Bruce's post(s).

At an MSEvent today, I heard "Spring 2008".

...

I'm more interested in
"When is VS2008 SP1 coming out?" (ha ha) because my company IT dept won't
pull the trigger usually until SP1 comes out.

Possibly as early as December this year for certain groups, I hear, much the
same way that Vista was available for download from MSDN on Nov 23 2006 but
not available to the general public until 31 Jan 2007...

!The Beta 2 is publicly available if you want to see it:

I'm running Beta 3, but I'm doing the Technical Beta.
Miha may be running Beta 3, too.

But, Miha and I were joking about the typo in the Subject : 20028, not 2008.

And more than likely, it will be available to MSDN subscribers before
then. I heard rumors that MSDN subscribers will get it in Late
December. (Christmas Present?).

Chris
Will there be Express versions? If so, is there a release date?
In the first quarter of 2008. And yes, there will be Express versions.

This has been known for quite a while now...

"Visual Studio 2008 and the .NET Framework 3.5 will be available by the end
of November 2007"

Yes it will, so long as you're an MSDN or TechNet subscriber etc - the
official launch date is still Feb 2008, and that's when it will hit the
channel.

It was the same with Vista - official launch date (i.e. when the queues
started at PC World) was 31st Jan 2007, but it was available to subscribers
on 23rd Nov 2006 - well, it was if you were quick and kicked off your
download before the Microsoft servers died under the strain... ;-)

I expect about the same time. Frankly, I don't expect them to physically
ship it until next year. It takes some time post RTM to get it into the
streets, but MSDN should come online fairly quickly once they decide it's
good enough...

On Monday, Nov. 19, Microsoft announced that Visual Studio 2008 and
the .NET Framework 3.5 were released to manufacturing (RTM).

right, I got mine. Installing now.

So you've had 24 hours and your opinion? ;-)

I'm going to have a look at if for the single feature of JavaScript
intellisense. That might help me maligning JS at every chance I get <grin>

Rob.
It installed fine on my Vista 64 and setup crashed on Vista 32. Still trying
to sort out the issues. They tell me I might need to install the 198mb 3.5
Framework manually. I'm hooking up my paper tape reader now...

They seem to think this is the issue. I don't think I installed any 3.5 version on this system, but who knows...

2.1.10. Installing Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows Vista computer that has had earlier versions of .NET Framework 3.5 may fail.

When Visual Studio 2008 is installed on a Windows Vista computer that has had earlier versions of Visual Studio, Setup fails during the installation of the .NET Framework 3.5 component.

To resolve this issue:

By using the Control Panel, uninstall the following Windows Updates:

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB110806)

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB930264)

- Hotfix for Microsoft Windows (KB929300)

I've never trusted upgrades like this. I play inside a VMware PC and keep Acronis Images of my PC set-up without any development tools so I can roll back (relatively) painlessly.
